What Do We Protect?

Campfire

My birth was a bit unexpected. A baby girl born into a long line of Texas men. I have always felt the tension of self against familial expectations and cultural norms. Often feeling set apart. Being told who I should be. What was allowed. I was slow to move out of the shadows of compliance and perfectionism. My heart bears the scars of the journey. As a photographer who studies light, lens, perspective and story, I see my need to protect and discover that seed deep inside that makes me who I am. Sacred.

These photographs in sequence tell a part of my story.
